Next up is from the grapics-don't-matter-for-good-games department where I ran across this 95 page thread on pennyarcade gushing about this game called dwarf fortress. It's a cross between dugeon siege and rogue. I'm actually sorta excited to see what it's like.
Woo! Voltron is coming out on dvd Sept 26! Looks like Media Blasters is handling the production. Another piece of my robot/mecha loving childhood coming to dvd. Time to pre-order!
Hm, other assorted news, I got a camera - went with the canon sd 700is. I'll post some pics once I recover from the overtime work. Also, pricing out parts for a new computer. And by pricing out, I mean neurotically clicking the refresh button to see if the motherboard I want is in stock yet at newegg. Although with the imminent release of the fall refresh of nvidia cards, I might continue to wait another week or two.
I used to play a lot of first person shooters in college. Primarily quake2 ctf before transitioning to counterstrike and then alternating with quake3 ctf. We always did pretty well on the ogl-east ladder, but I can't say I remember a particular ranking. Anyway, I remember using rocket jumping to acieve faster flag runs, but this vid is crazy trick jumping.
Crap, you can't embed googlevid into vox. Go here to see the video, it's worth it. These guys are pretty amazing, regardless of whether they're using cheats other than godmode to achieve these jumps.
What do you usually do on Sunday?
I usually recover from the previous night of doing stuff. That takes most of the "morning". I'll tentatively use that term as it's not really morning when I wake up. Depending on who is around and available, it's quite a mix of brunch/lunch choices. Recently, it's been dim sum, pho, indian buffet, or 5guys.
Alternately, my roommate might be watching a horror movie (or mma) and I'll watch that. After I'm finally awake, it's time for WoW!
This past weekend was a bit different. The horror movie landed on a saturday as a couple of us went to see The Descent, which I thought was really good and tense. I'm not exactly claustrophobic, but holy crap do I not ever want to go caving. Great use of the environment! Ignoring the typical/acceptable horror plotholes, I was never really pulled out of the movie and into a state of disbelief, so that was good. Anyway, I'd recommend seeing it.
